Reborn in 1996: From the Start, I Take on George Soros

The day he froze to death on the street, Lu Dingguo finally learned the truth: the futures bloodbath thirty years earlier that had destroyed his family was a pledge of loyalty his own brother had sold to Wall Street. He woke up in 1996, and the traitor was smiling as he handed over a bankruptcy agreement and a pen.

“In this life, you’re not even worthy of handing me a pen.” He tore up the contract and turned around to short the market with tenfold leverage. Three days later, the traitor was wiped out and on his knees, while Lu Dingguo’s account had gained eighteen million. But he didn’t buy a house or a car. He studied his memories of the next thirty years and ran the numbers: in 1996, ASML was worth less than $1.5 billion. The technology in that shabby prefab workshop would be able to hold the whole world by the throat twenty years later.

From then on, the A-share market was his arsenal, and Wall Street was his ATM. He made $900 million shorting the Thai baht, crushed Soros’s $80 billion assault during the defense of Hong Kong, and stubbed out an OFAC sanctions notice with his cigarette. Every dollar he took from Wall Street went into chip fabs, lithography lenses, and satellite antennas.

Years later, someone asked why he hadn’t spent the money enjoying life. Standing in the world’s most advanced lithography plant, he ran a hand over the machine’s casing and smiled. “Because this thing is worth more than a yacht.”

“In this life, you’re not even qualified to be my opponent!”
