The Ninth-Rank Dao Examination

Zhang Xian, the senior disciple of Longhu Mountain, possesses peerless Taoist skills and is widely recognized as the next sect leader. Yet his master kicks him down the mountain with a single foot: “Go take the civil service exam! Don't come back unless you pass!”

And so the youngest metaphysics prodigy of the modern era is forced to embark on the path to becoming a civil servant.

He uses a dragon-seeking compass to find the best feng shui seat in the exam hall, applies the theory of the Five Elements to predict aptitude test questions, and uses physiognomy to analyze the interviewers' preferences. The civil service world is hit by an unexpected upheaval.

But Zhang Xian soon discovers that the “Special Affairs Management Department,” where he has joined the civil service, handles all kinds of supernatural incidents. He now faces more than just exams: the schemes of the Jiuli Tribe, the crisis of artificial spiritual energy, and even the legacy of an ancient civilization...

When Taoist arts meet bureaucracy and metaphysics collides with technology, Zhang Xian's civil service career is destined to be anything but ordinary.
