Su Wan was woken up by the biting cold.
A strong musty smell flooded into my nose, like old cotton wool that had been there for half a year, mixed with an indescribable rotten smell. She struggled to open her eyes, and it took her a while to focus.
This is not her small apartment filled with history books.
Above the head were beams covered with cobwebs, and a few half-rotten rafters poked out, like the fingers of a skull. There was a hard wooden board underneath her body, and a thin, invisible quilt separated her body, which made her bones ache all over. There was a broken window in the corner, blocked with tattered linen cloth, and the cold wind got in through that gap.
Where is this?
