The Stand-In Leaves, So Why Is the Powerful Man of the Capital on His Knees?

[Marriage first, love later + intense push and pull + groveling pursuit + marriage contract + a mix of sweetness and angst] The third year of their marriage. Shen Yanzhou was reunited with his one true love after years apart. For three years, the man had been restrained and courteous, never once crossing the line. Wen Wan had once thought she’d found a good man who knew how to keep himself in check and follow the rules. Who knew that all along, he had simply been saving himself for the woman he loved? The words “You were just a substitute” shattered all her illusions. Their friends in high society were all waiting for him and his one true love to rekindle their romance. They said that she was a toad who had foolishly dreamed of marrying above her station, occupying another woman’s place for three years, and that it was time for her to leave. Wen Wan neither cried nor made a scene. She signed the divorce papers early and prepared to leave, but the man grew more and more strange. One snowy day, beneath the flashes of cameras and surrounded by a huge crowd, the usually calm and restrained man suddenly charged into the throng like a madman. Ignoring everyone’s shocked stares, he held her tightly in his arms and begged her on his knees not to go.
