Rising to the Top: A Civil Servant's Journey from the Grassroots

What good is passing the civil service exam?

Reborn top scholar Wang Zhengping took first place in two categories and always thought he would rise smoothly through the ranks.

But on his very first day reporting for duty, Xu Haifeng of the County Party Committee Organization Department assigned him to the poorest, most remote township government in the county: Yangliu Township...

Xu Haifeng: Young people like you need to be tossed into a muddy pit and given a good roll around to broaden your horizons...

Wu Lili: Wang Zhengping is the provincial exam champion. Anyone who gives him a hard time, I’ll report straight to the county leaders!

Lin Na: You have no connections or powerful backing, so who else is there to squeeze?

Wang Zhengping sneered: So what if you throw me into some godforsaken mountain ravine?

That very ravine will be the road I use to soar to the top and trample everyone else on my way up!

In just a few years, everyone in Qingxi County will know that Wang Zhengping is a real man who stands tall. He doesn’t rely on his father or connections, and he’ll reach the top through his own ability!
