In the Name of the People: I Came to Keep an Eye on Sha Ruijin!

With a single transfer order, Zhao Chuan parachuted into Handong in place of Tian Guofu, appointed at an unprecedentedly high level to stand as an equal alongside Sha Ruijin. Once stationed at the center of power, Zhao Chuan now took charge in Handong as a scholar-official and a leading legalist, pushing ahead with an iron-fisted anti-corruption campaign. When Zhao Chuan arrived, Sha Ruijin said coolly, “Secretary Zhao, I suppose this makes us overseers of each other.” Zhao Chuan replied calmly, “Precisely.” Handong was a tangled web, and everyone said its waters ran too deep. Zhao Chuan had only one thing to say: “My father is Zhao Mengsheng. I am willing to test those waters myself.” The Zhao Lichun faction had to be investigated, and the Handong University clique had to be purged. But should Hou Liangping's overstepping and disregard for procedural boundaries also be dealt with? A transfer across jurisdictions on a single phone call: was there an abuse of power behind it? Did the retired veteran Comrade Chen Yanshi's constant meddling and public statements comply with the rules and respect the boundaries? Could Li Dakang's family really have been involved in a case without his noticing anything at all? Even Sha Ruijin's iron-fisted style had to be subject to oversight. Your connections, seniority, or background: do they matter? Before the law and the rules, everyone is equal. Those who come from the red gates must still keep to the red lines. Power must have boundaries. This time, Handong's old rules would be rewritten, and new red lines firmly established. No matter who they were, everyone would be treated equally. No one would get an exception.
