Synopsis:

In the ancient city of Dongchang, an extraordinary Ming dynasty brush unexpectedly comes to light, bringing to the surface the tangled grudges of three generations. Chen Huaijin, a museum researcher, discovers a long-sealed farewell letter inside the brush. It records a century-old secret case concerning “choice” and “conscience.” As his investigation deepens, his life takes a sudden turn. Career crises, fractures within his family, and pressure from both capital and political power force him to confront the darkness and light within human nature. The story weaves together the expert perspective of artifact appraisal, the harsh realities of commercial power struggles, and the wisdom of traditional philosophy of the mind. Like a lone traveler carrying a lantern, Chen Huaijin must make a difficult moral choice in the real world each time he solves a chapter’s mystery. This is not only an adventure in pursuit of historical truth, but also a journey of self-cultivation about how to hold on to one’s principles amid a troubled world. In the end, it illuminates the path of conscience from losing one’s way to finding the way home.
