After his attempt to arrange a marriage with Cui Mingli, a scion of a great aristocratic clan, fails in the imperial capital of Chang'an, he flees into the martial world. Renaming himself Ling Xiaoyao, he meets the daughter of an old and esteemed Lingnan family, the Song clan. As they spend time together, affection grows between them.
