Content introduction
Baiyinchagan is a small county town that needs to be magnified many times to find on the map. It is very small, as small as the end of an old street; it is so old, that the rails are rusty and the street lights are dim. But it takes in all the people who have nowhere to go - the drunk who wanders out of the bar at three in the morning, the girl who guards a clothing store alone, the silent woman who writes poetry beside the railway tracks, and the foreigners who fly from Paris.
Jiang Chen had lived in this city for many years and had seen countless faces wearing masks, thinking that this would be it for the rest of his life. Until late one night, a girl named Yi Ning bumped into him on a bicycle. The wheels were still turning, and she lay on the ground and kept apologizing. He didn't know that she did it on purpose.
This is a story about loneliness and healing, as well as the chronicle of a small town. Some people come and go, some people leave and come back, and some people stay far away forever. But those who have loved, hated, waited, and let go will meet again in the moonlight, on the railroad tracks, and in the fragrance of gardenias.
"Because of a city, I fall in love with a person. Because of a person, I guard a city."
