Lin Shen, an archivist at the Municipal Public Security Bureau, discovers a bizarre case file numbered 0714 while sorting through long-sealed records. The words on its cover stand out in stark relief: This case will never be closed.
It concerns a seemingly perfect unsolved case from twelve years ago: Su Wan, a woman living alone, was found dead at home. The scene was spotless, like a sealed room, and all that remained was a page bearing a single word in blood: “Wait.” There was no culprit, motive, or trace. Everyone who worked on the case suffered misfortune, and it was eventually sealed away for good.
Lin Shen touches the file by chance, only to find a line of fresh writing inside: You finally came. That night, a warning note is slipped under his door, and an anonymous caller's words pierce his ears: It's your turn to wait.
The file vanishes into thin air. The veteran detectives fall silent as one, people in the know die under bizarre circumstances, and a copycat crime takes place. Only after pursuing the case step by step does Lin Shen realize that Su Wan's death was no isolated incident, but part of a revenge plot twelve years in the making.
The truth concealed all those years ago gradually comes to light. The killer is close at hand, and Lin Shen has already become the next pawn in the game.
The old case was never asleep. It was only waiting for someone to reopen the search for the truth.
The plot is closely linked, told in detail and fascinating. I haven't heard such a nice story in a long time!
The novel is well written and worth reading
