You Sent Me Abroad to Study, So Why Did I Bring the Ten Thousand Souls Banner?

Lu Yuan is the last practitioner of the dark arts from China's Yin Sect, skilled in corpse driving, Gu poisoning, and crafting paper effigies. But he's tired of fighting and killing. His lifelong dream is to get a secure government job at the China Bureau of Paranormal Affairs.

His sinister aura keeps him from passing the background check, so his superiors send him to Sicily, Italy, to study abroad and “clean up” his resume.

On the romantic Mediterranean coast, Lu Yuan meets Cecilia, a stunning upperclassman he falls for at first sight. He hopes for a quiet life of cooking Chinese food and dating, but it turns out she's the runaway heiress of a fallen Mafia family!

The local gangsters, a savage werewolf clan, and vampires keep kicking down his door, threatening to crush this frail Chinese student.

Looking at his wrecked cozy home and frightened girlfriend, Lu Yuan sighs and quietly puts away the civil service exam essay guide on his desk.

Then he pulls out paper soldiers and horses, a thousand-year-old mother-and-child evil spirit, and a Ten Thousand Souls Banner that blots out the sky.

“Foreign devils, my master taught me to win people over with virtue. Won't listen? Then I'll have to send you to the afterlife by force.”

A few months later, his superior back in China calls across the ocean. “Xiao Lu! We sent you there to get a degree and clean up your resume. How did you turn the Godfather of Sicily into an undead puppet?!”

Lu Yuan protests, “Chief, they started it! Just asking, if I've made the entire Western supernatural world kneel, does that count as merit? Can you make my position official now?”
