Modern Historical Fiction Has Almost No Gems. Disagree? Come Debate Me
The protagonist should not be sanctimonious, and the novel should not be mindless.
No Power Fantasies or Mindless Stories: Something Substantial and Not Cringey
After reading a few books that really make you think, I can't get into brainless stories anymore. It's frustrating. (No heroine, or just one heroine, but don't demean women, or I really can't stand it.)
Looking for Historical Court-Intrigue Novels With Brilliant Schemes and Elegant Prose
Looking for books like *She Wants to Take It Easy, but They Keep Forcing Her to Rebel (Ascending to the Golden Palace).*
High-Quality Alternate-History Fiction
Wuxia, not xianxia. The protagonist should be a skilled fighter, and it shouldn't be some brainless power fantasy.
Wuxia with Martial Arts, Internal Energy, and No Realm Rankings
At least a hundred chapters.
Looking for Martial Arts, Not Immortal Cultivation. Any Recommendations?
Something I can keep reading nonstop.
Any Novels Set During the Eastern Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties?
Historically Accurate, Without Making Things Up
Historical fiction has more room for worldbuilding, with vivid characters and no distortion of history. I want a satisfying read that covers dynasties, major and minor events, wars, and loyal civil and military officials, all presented in a historical setting.
What’s the Most Popular Historical Novel on Tomato Novel?
I want something like Claiming the Surname Zhuge: Vast Heavens, Rebuild the Han Dynasty!
Historical Fiction
Classic Wuxia Novels
Stories About Power Struggles in Both the Martial World and the Imperial Court?
The protagonist should be decisive and ruthless. The antagonists should be intelligent, or there shouldn’t be any absolute villains. No female lead, and above all, no woman should turn the protagonist into an idiot.
Political Schemes, High-IQ Strategizing, Hidden in the Shadows
High-IQ political scheming in an alternate history or an ancient world in another realm.
Books Set During the Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties or the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms
Historical novels set during the Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties, or the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.
Political Intrigue, Historical Setting
Are there any grand-scale political intrigue novels like *Scheming for Love* and *The Prosperous Age's Strategist*, with court politics and a turbulent martial world, but no domestic infighting?
Male-Focused Stories With a Cunning Male Lead Who Plans Everything and Controls the Whole Game, and Intelligent Antagonists
The Imperial Court, the Jianghu, and the Embroidered Uniform Guard
Wuxia in an alternate setting, political intrigue, or thrilling tales of revenge. Male-oriented, with multiple love interests, but not too many, and no harem of endless women. Is there really nothing like that? Is it so hard? Tomato has so many books!
The Most Promising Wuxia Stories of 2026, Rated 9.9
I'm looking for something like *The Ultimate Wish-Fulfillment Story for Martial Arts Fans Across the Heavens: Reader Reward System*. It should be so good it'll keep me hooked. No run-of-the-mill ranking-list stories, only masterpieces!
Good Wuxia Novels: No Brain-Dead Plots, No Making Characters Stupid, and No Playing the Pig to Eat the Tiger!
No playing the pig to eat the tiger! A System would be great, but no System is fine too. Cultivation novels are okay as well.
Looking for High-Quality Martial Arts Jianghu Novels
Thank you, fellow cultivators.
High-Quality Historical Novels With Political Intrigue
Looking for books like *My Father Is Emperor Wu of Han!* Nothing rated below 9.0, please. I'm in a serious reading slump.
Looking for High-Quality Stories Combining Court Intrigue and the Martial World
Historical Fiction: No Nonsense Allowed
It doesn’t have to be completely historically accurate, but at least don’t make it ridiculous. I want power struggles and political maneuvering that make sense. People shouldn’t just get confused all the time and believe the protagonist at first sight. The language doesn’t need to be perfectly period-appropriate, but please don’t throw in internet slang and memes at every turn.
