Dreams of Late Autumn at Green Mountain

In the chaotic years of the Republic of China, with the flames of war raging everywhere, she was a reserved widow who cared for her young child and healed the sick. He was a battle-hardened warlord, drenched in blood and wielding power over the region. Amid the lanes and alleys of war, she never asked who he was. Led by the scent of gardenias, she repeatedly saved several of his badly wounded subordinates. Her kindness and skill as a healer quietly won his heart. From then on, he kept his feelings buried deep and silently protected her as a soldier would. He shielded her from blades and bullets, keeping her and her child safe, but never dared cross the line. She knew how deeply he cared, yet remained bound by her past; with a healer's compassion, she could only give him half a lifetime of peace in return. With duty to country and family foremost and love kept hidden, the green hills bore witness and gardenia fragrance served as their matchmaker. Even if they could not spend their lives together, this silent devotion was enough to bring warmth to the rest of their lives in a turbulent age.
