After Su Jinshu and Lin Wan’er complained about a palace-intrigue novel, a bolt of lightning struck them both and sent them into the book.
Su Jinshu became Shen Yurao, the ill-fated consort who had spent three years in the palace without the emperor ever summoning her and was destined to be given a white silk sash to end her life. Lin Wan’er became Lu Qingyi, the emperor’s long-time unrequited love, who had already married the gentle and refined Prince Jing.
The two recognized each other in the imperial garden with the code phrase, “If the first number is odd, say ‘odd’; if it’s even, say ‘even.’” After hugging and crying, they quickly came up with a survival plan: Su Jinshu would save money to escape, while Lin Wan’er would seduce the emperor to distract him.
The plan went smoothly. Lin Wan’er successfully caught the emperor’s attention, and Su Jinshu secretly saved enough money to flee. But she hadn’t expected that the emperor, whose heart belonged to his beloved, would start coming to her palace every day.
He said, “I used to think I could only fall in love with one person in my life. But now I realize I was wrong.”
He said, “You make this palace feel less cold.”
He said, “Could you stop thinking about running away all the time?”
Su Jinshu stared at the copy of The Great Zhou Gazetteer she had practically read to shreds and fell into deep indecision: should she run or not?
