“Mutual redemption”
“Slow burn x gentle, steady progress x everyday life x heartwarming healing”
[A little angst, push and pull, an ensemble cast, no rivalry between women]
[A silent, melancholy male lead who has exiled himself]
[A resilient woman on the inside, exhausted on the outside]
Deep in the old neighborhood stands a secondhand bookstore that’s barely managing to stay open.
Lin Zhan works there part-time. She dropped out of school at twenty to care for her seriously ill mother. She’s used to swallowing every hardship, then smiling at people as if to say she’s fine.
Shen Yubai moved in one day. He was always quiet, always sitting in the bookstore’s farthest corner, staying there all day.
The bookstore was old, and so were its books. The people who came and went were ordinary folk, their backs bent under the weight of life.
Day after day, the medicine was bitter, the money was never enough, and tomorrow was always harder than today.
Only when her mother died and she fell apart did his love finally surface: silent, yet deafening.
It turns out breaking down isn’t weakness.
It turns out being strong doesn’t mean carrying everything alone.
It turns out that even in the deepest darkness, a little glimmer of light is enough to keep you warm.
We have all been broken by life. Then, in the evening breeze of a summer night, piece by piece, we put ourselves and each other back together.
It's good to read. I like reading this kind of realistic novel. It's very delicately written.
