I Texted My Brother, 'Save Me,' and He Replied, 'Let's Talk Tomorrow'

I was bullied relentlessly at work and had nowhere left to turn. Late one night, I messaged him: “Brother, help me.”

He replied with just three words: “We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Ever since he brought me home when I was five, my entire youth had belonged to one person: Brother Che.

He told me, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here,” and I made those words the only thing I could count on for the rest of my life.

I secretly loved him for more than a decade. Even my wish to marry him when I grew up was something I only dared whisper before the candles on my birthday cake.

I thought the bond we built by being together every day could withstand any storm in the world.

In the end, I never got to see the tomorrow he promised.

And I never got to tell him how deeply I had loved him, all my life.

This is a prequel to I Was Single for Thirty Years, Then Gave My First Kiss to the New Landlord.
