Excerpt:
The people who kidnapped her weren’t ordinary thugs. They were business rivals of Zhou Chu, competitors who had been looking for dirt on him for a long time.
They locked her in an abandoned warehouse and called Zhou Chu in front of her, putting the call on speaker.
“Mr. Zhou, I have your daughter. Do you know what she’s been investigating lately? She’s investigating you. She’s gathering evidence to take you down. Your adopted daughter is turning against you. What do you think of that?”
There was a long silence on the other end of the line.
Zhou Yanzhi held her breath and waited.
Then Zhou Chu’s voice came through, perfectly calm, as if he were discussing a business deal. “She’s young and doesn’t know any better.”
The other man laughed. “Mr. Zhou, you, ”
“Let her go,” Zhou Chu interrupted, leaving no room for negotiation. “Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you. Money, projects, territory. Name your price. If she loses a single hair, I’ll cut off one of your fingers. I’m not joking.”
The other man was silent for a few seconds. “Mr. Zhou, you know she’s working against you, right?”
“I know. That’s family business. Whatever my child does, I’ll handle it. It’s not for outsiders to worry about.”
The call ended.
Twenty minutes later, Zhou Chu arrived in person.
The other side had more than a dozen men. When they saw him, their guns began to shake in their hands. Zhou Chu didn’t look at them. He only looked at Zhou Yanzhi, who was tied to a chair.
“Does it hurt?”
