Setting: An imaginary modern city, with a timeline parallel to the real world. Its social institutions and legal system are the same as ours, but there is an unspoken “rule of the wealthy”, once a fortune reaches a certain scale, power creates a gray area at the edges of the law. Gu Yanci’s wealth and influence allow him to “legally” imprison someone in a cage built from assets, without crossing the legal line.
