The story is set in the 17th year of Yong'an in the Yan Dynasty. Beidi's iron hoof broke through Yanmen Pass, and the Central Plains was in danger. The once prosperous Dayan Dynasty collapsed due to internal and external troubles. Faced with the pressure of the Beidi army, all civil and military officials died or fled. The princes even abandoned their father and country and fled first. Only Shen Zhijie, compiled by the Hanlin Academy with a low official rank, faced the devastated court and proposed three strategies: upper, middle and lower. The turning point of the story is when Li Tong, the king of the subjugated country, looked at his remaining relatives in despair, revealing the deeper human struggle and uncertain future behind the collapse of the dynasty.
