The Secrets of Fate: The Tale of Xu Fu

The Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden and her junior brother, the White Ape, were banished to the mortal world for secretly teaching immortals' arts. The Mysterious Maiden was reincarnated as Xu Fu, while the White Ape followed her and became Pei Cheng. Bound by fate across lifetimes, Pei Cheng always gave Xu Fu the warmth and sense of belonging she needed in the mortal world. Xu Fu became a disciple of Huang Shigong, Zhang Liang's teacher, who personally taught her the secrets of destiny-reading. With all living beings in her heart, she fulfilled her destiny as the Mysterious Maiden, using her skills of physiognomy to follow Heaven's will and aid the nation's fortunes. But she had long understood that physiognomy was no tool for chasing fame and fortune. Its true purpose was compassion: saving people and easing the world's suffering. After accomplishing her mission, she retired with Pei Cheng to the mountains, where she wrote books to pass on her knowledge. The Way may be bound by Heaven's will, but human hearts can change fate. That is the true essence of physiognomy. At last, having fulfilled her divine merits, she returned to the celestial court.
