I Want Nothing More Than to Die, but the Empress Keeps Throwing Herself at Me

Lu Yuan transmigrates to the Great Qian Empire and binds himself to the [Die-to-Ascend System].

If someone kills him, he can become an immortal on the spot and return to the modern world with hundreds of billions in assets! If his bid for death fails, he only gets a “useless” max-level skill as a consolation prize.

To get home, Lu Yuan decides to do everything he can to get himself killed!

At court, the empress is about to unleash a massacre.

Lu Yuan steps forward and points at her, cursing her to her face: “Foolish ruler! Tyrant! If you've got the guts, cut off my head today!”

The assembled officials suck in a collective breath, all certain that Lu Yuan is as good as dead.

Who could have guessed that the empress would unexpectedly awaken the ability to [Hear People's Inner Thoughts]?

[Cut me down! Come on, cut me down! The moment your blade falls, I'll become a sage in the flesh. Then I'll crush your pathetic Great Qian Empire with one slap!]

The empress breaks out in a cold sweat, her hand trembling around her sword.

If she kills him, is the Great Qian doomed?!

“L-Lord Lu is devoted to his country and people, a man of unwavering loyalty. Reward him with ten thousand taels of gold and promote him!” the empress grits out.

Lu Yuan is baffled. Desperate to die quickly, he volunteers to put down rebels, duel peerless swordsmen, and investigate corrupt officials throughout the land.

But then...

“Ding! Bid for death failed. You received [The Courage of a Conqueror]. The rebels surrendered in terror!”

“Ding! Bid for death failed. You received [Peerless Literary Talent]. Scholars across the land revere you as a sage!”

Years later.

The assembled officials: “Chief Councillor Lu is truly the most loyal subject in history!”

The empress, blushing: “Lu Yuan, I'll give you half my empire. The position of imperial consort can only be yours!”

Lu Yuan, sitting on the dragon throne, sighs at the heavens: “I really just wanted to die. How did I end up invincible?”
