Chen Chengcheng, 25, a product manager at a major modern internet company.
After dying from overwork, he wakes up to discover he has become the “fourth disciple” Tang Sanzang just took in: not Sha Monk, but a temporary extra brought in by Guanyin Bodhisattva. The reason? “The pilgrimage team needs someone with a modern management mindset.”
Chen Chengcheng just wants to slack off and make money, using modern ideas to start a business in the world of Journey to the West and retiring to a cave abode once he has saved enough. But the System, or what might be called “Destiny”, keeps pushing him toward the actual business of the pilgrimage. Every time he tries to run away, he “just happens” to encounter a demon or a calamity, forcing the plot forward.
