History teacher Mo Fanzun suddenly fell to the ground while correcting a test paper and woke up in Sichuan in 1911. He became a helper in the patrol camp. He was stabbed in the left shoulder and had more than a hundred people under his command. He was trapped in Chengdu, the eye of the storm of the road protection movement.
He knew what would happen next - the Chengdu massacre, the siege by the Tongzhi Army, the Wuchang Uprising, and the fall of the Qing Dynasty. He also knew that the azure official uniform he was wearing would become a life-threatening talisman in a few months.
The only way out is to act as a loyal minister of the imperial court and implement separatist rule. Taking advantage of the opportunity to escort arms, he exchanged old guns for new ones in Chengdu and returned to Chongqing with more than 100 Hanyang-made guns. The imperial court gave him the title of "Loyal and Brave Batulu", and he expanded, recruited and trained troops in the name of "suppressing bandits". Zhao Erfeng asked him to send troops to support Chengdu, so he used the name of "support" to attack the city and seize territory along the Dongda Road.
He knew that the Wuchang Uprising was about to break out and the Qing rule was about to collapse, but he couldn't tell anyone. He could only tie everyone around him to his chariot with the simple words "Only in troubled times can you survive if you have soldiers in your hands."
It only took him two months to go from being a gang leader to being a leader, from having more than a thousand remnant soldiers to taking control of eastern Sichuan. But the real test has yet to come - he must defend this land and the thousands of brothers who follow him in the vacuum after the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.
This is a forgotten history, a people struggling to survive in the gaps of history. He knew the direction of the tide, but he couldn't tell. All he could do was hold the gun in his hand tightly.
