The story takes place in the world of Classics of Mountains and Seas. The protagonist Shi Xing was the number one swordsman in the immortal world, the "Qingming Sword Master", in his previous life. He fell because of being involved in a taboo battle involving the origin of destiny. After his rebirth, he found that he had become his old enemy - the natal sword spirit of the contemporary demon lord "Yexuan", and was trapped in the demon sword "Silent Abyss". As a sword spirit, Shi Xing had to re-cultivate from the humble "grass and tree psychic".
