In 2003, in Yihe Town, a small city in northern Jiangsu, schoolteacher Ren Xiaoming fell into the river late at night and died. The police closed the case as a suicide caused by depression. Her mother, Ren Meiyan, refused to sign the papers, convinced her daughter had been murdered.
Twenty years later, in 2023, a mysterious woman claiming to be Ren Xiaoming appears before Ren Meiyan. But her face, fingerprints, and DNA are all completely different from those of the dead woman.
The only clue is a final message left by the deceased:
“If someone is living under my name, it must be because I arranged it myself.”
