This world is an Earth-like parallel world surrounded by eternal mist, recorded in the annals of the old world as “Earth.” Human civilization is concentrated in an urban cluster made up of a central main city and dozens of satellite cities. Beyond the cities lies the “Gray Zone,” partly consumed by the mist, and farther still is the absolutely forbidden Abyss of Mist. Within the mist dwell mist aberrants, against whom human firearms can inflict only negligible damage. Since the mist first appeared 527 years ago, some humans have gradually awakened extraordinary abilities. These awakened humans, stronger than ordinary people, have led countless others in battling the mist aberrants for 527 years, repelling one large-scale attack after another. Yet for more than five centuries, the mist has continued to devour the land at an average rate of one to three kilometers per year. The human defensive lines keep retreating, cities are gradually shrinking, and the space available for survival continues to contract. To this day, people have catalogued 108 kinds of superhuman abilities awakened by humans, ranking them in different sequences according to their characteristics. To advance, those who awaken 36 of these abilities must devour other living beings, and their bodies undergo some kind of mutation. Some even come to resemble creatures among the mist aberrants, so those who awaken these abilities are classified as Calamities. Lin Dalu, a former elite soldier from Earth, transmigrates into the body of a boy in this parallel world who shares his name. He awakens as the only special Calamity outside the 108 sequences. His Calamity is: Gundam.
As a novice who is trying to write a novel for the first time, the whole process from conceiving the opening chapter to slowly advancing the plot is full of exploration and apprehension. From setting up the story frame, shaping the characters, to designing plot conflicts and laying down foreshadowings, every step was revised repeatedly, and I knew that I still had many shortcomings in writing, rhythm and detail processing. But even so, I still take every chapter seriously and write every character with my heart, so that they have their own personalities and choices, and the story has its ups and downs, tension and warmth. This book is not that amazing, but I put a lot of time and effort into it. I hope that friends who see this can be more tolerant, and I also hope that this imperfect story can bring you a moment of immersion. If you can feel a little bit of emotional ups and downs while reading, it will be a great encouragement to me. I will continue to learn and work hard to write better works.
