A Farmer's Son's Road to the Imperial Exams

The Great Qi dynasty is plagued by a corrupt court. The treacherous minister Yan Song wields power, turmoil looms at court, and disorder is spreading through the provinces.

Liu Jingyuan, born into a poor family, studies hard for ten years and passes the imperial examinations. He seeks neither high office nor great wealth, wishing only to use his talents to protect the people and keep the peace. He takes up his post in Wuchang, Chu. An upright official who cares for the people, he soon wins the support of Wuchang's citizens. But his influence with the people and steadfast commitment to justice earn him Yan Song's wrath, making him a thorn in the side of both a suspicious emperor and corrupt officials.

His son, six-year-old Liu Nianyuan, was born with the orthodox dragon-vein fortune of the Liu family's Hidden Dragon Cave and is the inheritor of Wuchang's dragon vein. To protect the isolated city, he forcefully channels dragon energy to stabilize its defensive aura. But his young age and frail body nearly leave him consumed by the energy, damaging his foundations. At this critical moment, the reclusive feng shui master Xuanjizi senses the disturbance in the dragon vein and rushes to Wuchang from a thousand miles away. He takes Liu Nianyuan as his disciple and teaches him how to stabilize and cultivate qi and control the veins, completing the dragon-vein inheritance and preventing him from gaining an overpowered, cheat-like advantage.
