My Sister Is the Emperor’s Favorite Consort, While I Run Wild at Court

A bloodstained letter from his older sister, a palace consort, traveled from Chang'an to the backwater of Liangzhou: “Little brother, they’re about to kill me in the palace!”

To save his sister, country boy Wang Baichuan headed to the capital alone. The road there was fraught with danger, and he was targeted by a carefully planned assassination as soon as he entered the city. The prince’s estate he thought he could rely on had long since been bought off by the empress. His uncle was a traitor, and his aunt was as wicked as a snake, even poisoning the chicken soup!

Wang Baichuan struck like thunder, slapping his uncle and seizing power to audit the accounts. In a single night, he purged his household and took firm control of his decaying family. He seemed like a country bumpkin of an imperial brother-in-law, but in truth, he was a master schemer. A painting of crabs secretly carried a message to the palace, signaling his sister to strike back. A staged street-side accident won him the friendship of the emperor’s trusted chief eunuch and brought him to the Son of Heaven’s attention. And when he stood up for an injustice, he rescued an upright censor and exposed the empress’s faction’s web of corruption.

His sister maneuvered carefully in the harem while he unleashed a storm of bloodshed at court. Everyone thought he was a soft touch, easy to manipulate. Little did they know that this madman from the countryside would make all of Chang'an tremble!
