Jie Zhengguo (1910–1940), born Xiaoshun, was from Wucheng County, Shandong Province. At the age of ten, he fled famine with his father and brothers to the Zhaogezhuang coal mine in Kailuan. At fourteen, he went underground as a child laborer and practiced martial arts in his spare time to build his strength. In 1938, he took part in the major strike at Kailuan's five mines and served as captain of the workers' picket brigade. That same year, he joined the anti-Japanese uprising and became commander of the first special operations battalion of the Eastern Hebei Anti-Japanese Allied Army. On August 1, 1940, he was killed in action at Yougezhuang, Luan County.
