This story is adapted from "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio". During the Kangxi period, Du Mingyuan, a scholar in Jiuwan Village, suffered from a family illness. When his wife Wang was seriously ill, she was possessed by her late father. In the name of renewing his life, the late father wanted to use his daughter-in-law as a bargaining chip to make a deal with Yin Zha, and planned to return to the world for revenge. Fortunately, the old man exposed the conspiracy, Du Mingyuan went to the underworld to call back his father's conscience, and joined forces to defeat the underworld, finally saving his wife and avenging his father's injustice, and later became an honest official and stayed with his wife for the rest of his life.
