In the thirty-eighth year of the Republic of China, on the night of April 20th, the Yangtze River was filled with fog.
Wang Huai stood in the headquarters of Jiangyin Fort. The military map was spread out on the table, and the arrows drawn with red and blue pencils were crooked.
He had just turned forty, and there were already deep wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, but his eyes were still frighteningly bright, a light honed after seeing too much death and betrayal.
"Military seat, the Communist troops have assembled on the north bank and may cross the river at any time." The chief of staff handed over the telegram, his hands shaking.
Wang Huai took the telegram and threw it on the table.
He lit a Hademon, and the smoke swirled up in the dim light.
The headquarters was so quiet that you could hear the sound of the river lapping against the shore, and there was a faint sound of artillery in the distance, not here, but upstream, in the direction of Wuhu.
"Let the brothers have extra dinner tonight." Wang Huai's voice was surprisingly calm, "Pork stewed with vermicelli, that's enough."
The chief of staff was stunned for a moment: "Military seat, this..."
"Go." Wang Huai waved his hand and walked to the observation port.
From here, you can see the river, which is completely dark. Occasionally, a searchlight sweeps across, dragging out a pale strip of light in the middle of the river.
Thirty-five years ago, when he saw this river for the first time, he was still a seventeen-year-old young man who had just returned from studying in Japan. He was standing on the Nanjing pier in high spirits wearing a starched student uniform.
At that time, he never imagined that he would be standing here, commanding an army, waiting for a decisive battle with the "Communist Army".
No, not a decisive battle, but waiting for an uprising.
This idea has been in his mind for more than half a year, starting when Jinan fell. He was able to rise from a landowner's dandy to become a major general today because of one thing: his ability to see clearly.

Leave a five-star review. The author's starting point is very novel. There is no usual red start or immediate fame, but a plot in which the protagonist changes to different camps in different periods. The writing is okay, but I feel that just writing about the struggle of the protagonist in different periods is a bit too much. After reading too much, I feel very dark and weak, and I feel very aggrieved [face covering]; and maybe it is because I read too much from the front, or I don't want to consider the composition of the army when watching it. Every time I see Lao Wang's army, I feel that Lao Wang has not traveled through time. The troops have no appearance at all. They are the same as the army at that time and have not been reorganized (personally I feel [shy]). Finally, I hope that Lao Wang is back and can live an upright and honest life. He will not be as worried and conscientious as the previous times!
I hope that the protagonist will arrive in Hong Kong smoothly, then his condition will improve, and he will successfully transform into the first family
The writing is quite good, about struggle in troubled times, survival, human nature, and scheming with gangsters. I am ruthless when I need to be ruthless, and I am timid when I should be timid. It is good in all aspects. The only question is whether my body can be better. At least after I have a way out, I still have a good body to enjoy life, or to start a new world...
Not bad, not bad, at least it was written with care. In the later period, I will lead troops from the south to French Southeast Asia to build a piece of territory.
