Jiang Xiaoman, a 23-year-old overworked office worker, gets struck by lightning and is bound to the Merit Comment System, becoming a psychological counselor for Heaven’s redemption pilgrimage team. She takes Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing back on the Journey to the West, livestreaming the whole thing. Bad behavior means a deduction in merit; fail, and they face imprisonment for eternity.
The three demons are hot-tempered and hard to tame: Brother Monkey threatens to quit every three minutes, Bajie can’t take his eyes off a pretty woman, and Sha Wujing silently hauls boxes while acting aloof.
She relies on comments in her mind to anticipate trouble: “Brother Monkey’s about to swing his staff! Stop him!” “That lustful thought costs ten merit points!” She can even find hidden golden comments to turn the tide.
The livestream is packed with viral jokes, and the pilgrimage becomes a top-tier star variety show, much to the Jade Emperor’s fury. But she keeps raising the stakes: filming dramas, forming boy bands, and exposing scandals. She clears the challenges in reverse, turning their redemption performance into an exhilarating comeback story.
