Welcome to the World of Mist.
Rule One: The mist erodes your sanity.
Rule Two: A piece of broken porcelain is your only protective charm.
Rule Three: Thirteen haunted buildings, thirteen trials.
Rule Four: It is watching you.
Qin Xuan only remembers falling into the mist.
When he woke, the world had become unrecognizable. There was no direction across the gray-white wasteland. The thick mist devoured memories, while the undying wandered in the shadows, their footsteps wet and squelching. His sanity was plummeting, and hallucinations began to appear in his mind: his seven-year-old self, sitting alone at a train station, waiting for someone who would never return.
There was a piece of broken porcelain in his pocket. He couldn't remember when he had gotten it, only that it gave off a faint warmth and protected the last sliver of clarity in his mind.
Then he met Si Yu.
The man emerged from the mist like a porcelain object forgotten among the ruins: pale, cold, and so thin and translucent that he seemed likely to be swept away by the wind at any moment. He slaughtered the undying with a simplicity that bordered on indifference, as if it had nothing to do with him. He saved Qin Xuan without even looking at him, then turned and walked into the mist.
Qin Xuan followed. Not out of gratitude, nor out of fear. It was because, in that moment, he saw Si Yu look back at him. In those gray eyes was something he couldn't understand.
Only later did he learn that it had been watching him.
Everyone gets a bad ending. They all fall into the mist. Find sweetness among the shards of glass.
