The day Li Zhi was stripped of his immortal bones, he thought his life was over. From head of the Imperial Examination Department to Black Impermanence in the underworld, six hundred strokes had destroyed his divine body. Then his new partner, Zhang Chengfeng, appeared: born to a prestigious divine clan, a Kunlun Mountain graduate, a blunt young fool who was always looking at him as if to say, "You must have a story to tell."
Zhang Chengfeng had only wanted to be a proper White Impermanence, clear his name, and return to the Heavenly Court. But there was something off about this Black Impermanence. He was clearly powerful, yet kept a low profile in the underworld. He had clearly been framed, yet never sought to clear his name. Even stranger, Zhang Chengfeng found himself less and less eager to return to the Heavenly Court.
Only when the Li family closed in at every turn, the demon clan knelt across the Bridge of Helplessness, and a golden radiance of cosmic proportions tore through the sea of clouds did Zhang Chengfeng understand: some people were demoted to the underworld because heaven wasn't worthy of them.
Traditional mythology meets the modern workplace. Black and White Impermanence partner up to solve cases, going from strangers to entrusting each other with their lives. Sweet moments and heartbreak, with a happy ending.
