At the end of the Ming Dynasty, thousands of people died of hunger and corpses littered the fields. Every process of dynasty change was accompanied by natural and man-made disasters. People were displaced and miserable. The world was in chaos. The Qing army was trying to tackle key problems. Ordinary people had almost zero chance of surviving in these troubled times.
