In her previous life, she was crown princess. Her husband personally forced her to drink poison, and her entire family was executed. As she lay dying, only the disgraced crown prince, the man everyone called a “madman,” stormed the execution ground and took thirty-seven arrows for her.
When she opened her eyes again, she was fifteen. This time, she took the initiative and approached that “madman,” because she remembered that three years later he would ascend the throne, and the history books would describe the empress in just four words: “Her place was empty.”
But she never expected that on their wedding night, he would grip her chin and ask, “You wouldn’t happen to be using me, would you, Princess?”
Nor did she know that this man had been reborn too.
This is a story of rebirth, political intrigue, and deep devotion. The heroine grows from a seeker of revenge into a ruler of all under heaven, while the hero transforms from a “madman” into a wise and benevolent emperor. They scheme against each other, yet help each other succeed; they are each other’s chess pieces, and each other’s way home.
Two formidable leads join forces, both sharp-witted and capable. Their romance is equal parts sweetness and heartbreak, while the political intrigue unfolds in tightly linked twists.
If fate gave me another chance, this time I’d be my own support. And yours, too.
Who knows! This novel really caught my attention right from the beginning! The layers of reversals are intertwined, the suspense is so high that you can't guess the follow-up direction, the character story lines are full and delicate, and the deeper you dig, the more interesting it becomes. There is no peeing throughout the plot, and the foreshadowing is super smooth. After reading one chapter, I want to read the next one. The immersive text-chasing is amazing, and it is an advantage for all the book-hungry sisters!
