"Hometown of Misty Rain" is a century-old history of changes in the south of the Yangtze River with Jiaxing Nanhu, Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Plain, and Haining Seawall as the geographical skeleton. It is a long story of how the water town was repeatedly broken and reborn amidst the rise and fall of the silk industry, business wars, wars and disruptions, and changes in political power. The core stage is set in a fictional ancient town: Yanqiao Town. It is located in the water network area at the junction of Jiaxing, Tongxiang, and Haining. Here, families, gangs, business houses, government, foreign businessmen, and revolutionary forces are fighting with each other. Rivers, ports, dykes, silk markets, banks, city gates, and water alleys are all power nodes. The so-called hometown is not nostalgia in the lyrical sense, but a geographical destiny that a person cannot get rid of throughout his life. Hometown is not ancestral property, not an ancestral hall, not an archway, but a common order that can withstand floods, wars and time and still allow people to survive.
