I Refuse to Perform!

Jiang Che, a lowly bit player, struggled for three years in Hengdian. With no connections or resources, he was on the brink of despair when he was unexpectedly pulled into the mysterious Fatebound Film Set.

This is a live-streamed fight for survival, controlled by high-ranking deities. The real world and the inner world are completely bound together: injuries in the inner world are mirrored in reality, and death means the soul is truly annihilated. Everyone who enters is an actor, and must strictly follow their scripted character. The moment they go OOC and break character, the supernatural horrors will devour them, turning them into spirits trapped in an eternal loop within the instance.

Jiang Che has no inborn divine power and no cheat from the start. All he has is the keen eye for reading people that he honed over three years as a bit player, and the ruthlessness and clear-headedness etched into his bones.

He believes in looking out for himself above all else. He plays no selfless saint and chases no empty fame. With consummate acting, he fits his roles and exploits loopholes in the rules. Through painstaking calculation, he survives one deadly predicament after another, rising from an unknown bit player to a leading actor, then a screenwriter, and finally the director of the film set, wielding the scripts and making the rules.

He saves spirits trapped by their obsessions, fights renegades who have sided with the deities, and uses the power struggles between divine factions to forge alliances and turn enemies against one another. At last, he uncovers the truth behind the film set’s thousand-year history: this so-called divine script is nothing more than a cage for mortals.

When the deities deliver their final script of destiny, Jiang Che rejects every choice.

He has never meant to play someone else’s part. He will direct his own fate and shatter every shackle that binds mortals.
