In western Hunan, Chen Sanjia, the last heir to the corpse-driving craft, is forced to take over a failing “logistics company” after his master is murdered. It is simply a modern front for the traditional corpse-driving trade. His first job is to escort Master Ye, a “left-behind senior” who died in an accident, back to his hometown.
But the corpse undergoes a transformation on the way, and a glowing “psionic crystal” is found inside it. Chen Sanjia discovers that the crystal can bring corpses back to life like marionettes. Meanwhile, Lin Wantang, a female scientist who claims to be a folklorist, comes to see him and exposes the conspiracy of the “Deep Space Council”: they plan to use the crystals and local beliefs throughout western Hunan to trigger a massive “mass corpse transformation” involving tens of thousands of people, completely destroying the region’s cultural foundations.
One is the last folk heir, who upholds his ancestral teachings and knows “magic.” The other is an elite insider who believes in science and knows “technology.” From mistrusting each other to being forced to join forces, they wield the oldest “Chenzhou talismans” and cutting-edge quantum physics in a final showdown that leads from the Miao villages of western Hunan to the hidden reaches of Zhangjiajie, and finally to the Deep Space Council’s lunar base.
