Ten Years Into a Miserable Marriage

Su Xiao has never once been treated with genuine kindness.

When she was a child, her father had an affair with the wife of his deceased elder brother.

He gave all his affection to his mistress's daughter,

while treating his own children, her and her brother, with nothing but coldness and beatings.

As a young woman, she fell deeply in love,

but because her family was ordinary, her first love's mother cruelly tore them apart.

The woman she hated most witnessed her humiliation and heartbreak from beginning to end.

She thought marriage would let her escape her misery,

but instead she entered a wretched marriage that lasted ten years.

Her husband was away all year and never helped with housework. She lived like a single mother.

The night she caught him cheating, she finally resolved to divorce him.

Her whole family opposed her, and everyone urged her to endure it.

Her mother had spent her life in silence, her father was cold and selfish, and her brother had a family of his own and couldn't stand up for her.

At her most desperate, she met a gentle, considerate man.

She thought he was her salvation in the darkness,

but only after she became pregnant did she learn that he already had a family.

After the whole world had let her down, she finally saw clearly.

Ten years in a wretched marriage had drained half a lifetime of tenderness.

From now on, she would rely on no one, settle for nothing, and expect nothing.

For the rest of her life, she would live only for herself.
