The West African Overlord

Chen Jin was lured to West Africa by a shady recruiter’s promise of “high-paying work.” As soon as he stepped off the smuggling boat, he was abandoned on the coast near Lopez Port. The humid sea breeze carried the stench of gunpowder and decay. Before his eyes, his fellow countryman Zhao Lei was shot through the chest for refusing to let armed soldiers extort him. His body was kicked into the sea like a piece of garbage. At that moment, Chen Jin finally understood: in this lawless, chaotic land, weakness meant death. If he wanted to survive, he had to cast aside all innocence and kindness and arm himself with ruthlessness. Fighting down his fear and rage, he slipped into a nearby slum under cover of darkness, taking the first step toward surviving against all odds.
