A fire spanning eleven years, and two souls destined to meet.
Eleven years ago, a fire destroyed a psychology clinic and Shen Du’s life along with it. His best friend died saving him, while the arsonist disappeared without a trace.
Eleven years later, a string of disappearances brings Shen Du and Lu Heng together. One is a psychology consultant so calm he borders on coldness; the other is a criminal investigator so brutal he borders on madness. Everyone says they clash like fire and water, but no one sees the last glimmer of light in Lu Heng’s eyes when he looks at Shen Du, or the imperceptible tremor in Shen Du’s fingers when he hears Lu Heng’s name.
Because Lu Heng is the son of the arsonist from all those years ago.
As the truth gradually comes to light, they discover that the fire was never the end. It was only the opening move in a game of chess. From the start, Lu Heng’s very existence was a piece carefully set in place by someone. And Shen Du was the true target.
When the flames rise again, Lu Heng must choose: follow the fate his father arranged for him, or turn around and embrace the one person he wants to protect above all others.
“Bro, am I... tainted too?”
“No. You’re my hero. The only light in my life.”
