AD 23, the last year of Xinmang. The series of advanced reforms implemented by Wang Mang—land nationalization, currency reform, and equalization system—crumbled under the joint counterattack of the powerful and the old aristocracy. The Green Forest and Red Eyebrow armies rose up, Chang'an fell, and Wang Mang died in the rebellion at the age of 68.
His life is one of the biggest tragedies in Chinese history: the policy direction was two thousand years ahead of its time, but it ultimately ended in failure due to limitations of the times, improper execution and political isolation.
At the last moment before his death, Wang Mang's consciousness traveled through the body of an ordinary college student (male, 21 years old, studying in a certain university) in modern China.
