[Cthulhu elements] [Single heroine] [Slow burn] [Not a power fantasy, read with caution]
Ordinary people who come into contact with the corruption of the Old Gods lose their minds and become sacrifices. But Shen Yan returned reborn, awakening the Abyssal Spirit Sight and Sanity Anchor System.
His left eye sees through the corruption of the Old Gods, the tracks of their thralls, and forbidden secrets, exposing the disguises of all that cannot be described. His right eye anchors his own sanity and that of others, granting immunity to mental collapse, purifying supernatural corruption, and even extracting the source of the corruption to unlock secret keeper arts and seal rifts to the Old Gods.
There is no overwhelming violence, no invincibility that lets him crush the Old Gods. He has only spirit sight for eyes, sanity for a shield, and secret arts for a spear, as he walks the line between madness and lucidity.
He is the only anomaly who cannot be consumed by the Old Gods' whispers, and the last hope of the Keepers' organization. He fights the Deep Ones Cult, seals the projections of the Outer Gods, and prevents the Great Old Ones from awakening, guarding the final glimmer of human civilization amid endless darkness.
When the stars align and R'lyeh awakens, Shen Yan stands before the rift in the abyss, his spirit sight fully open. “They look down upon all living things and see humanity as ants. Then, with this mortal body, I will hold back the abyss of ages!”
