This is a story about “what if.”
If you could go back in time, what would you do? Buy Bitcoin? Stock up on houses? Or find the people you once let down and say, “I’m sorry”?
Lin Zhimu chose to do both.
He seized the tide of the times, because he knew love couldn’t go far without bread. But he also knew that a life with nothing but bread would be no different from his previous one.
Every regret in this story is a fragment the author gathered from real life. The words left unsaid, the hands never held, the tenderness worn away by games and work: they lie scattered throughout countless people’s youth, becoming a thorn that pricks them awake in the dead of night years later.
If this story reminds you of someone, something you never finished, or something you never said, then that is enough.
Because life gives us no second chances.
But at least, in a story, we can live once more in place of the people we used to be.
