He Simu, a four-hundred-year-old Ghost King, was born without any of the five senses, and the world around her is a wasteland. Disguised as a frail orphan, she roams the mortal world. While hunting for food on a battlefield, she meets the young general Duan Xu. He carries the Sword of Truth, and his eyes are clear, yet he bears a blood feud and a curse that will shorten his life. They test each other from the moment they meet: she feigns timidity and avoids the blood, while he sees through her but says nothing. Hoping to experience the warmth and cold of the mortal world, they form a contract that lets them share their senses and pain. He fights in blood-soaked battles on the front lines, while she shares his pain by his side. Through him, she first tastes joy and sorrow; through her, the fire in his heart is rekindled. When rebellion erupts in the underworld and their homeland faces danger, they join forces to overcome every crisis. She gives up her divine power to grant him immortality, while he abandons his rank to give her an ordinary life. At last, all the ghosts bow to send their spirit lord back to the mortal world. Together, the two make their home among green hills, listening to cicadas sing like a melody.
