Before my teacher disappeared, he said just one thing:
“Don’t investigate that river. It should never be drawn again.”
At first, I thought he was crazy, until I found a torn fragment of a map wedged into the wall of an old building.
The map showed a river that didn’t exist in the real world.
Following its trail, I uncovered a student disappearance case from twenty years ago, an unidentified corpse from ten years ago, a well sealed shut at the end of the old street, and a county gazetteer that had been altered beyond recognition.
Only later did I learn that the first thing erased from this county’s history wasn’t the river.
It was the people connected to it.
