The Netherworld Papercraft Chronicles: My Path to Immortality in the Spirit Realm

In the dying years of the Xuanyuan Dynasty, when rites and music have fallen into ruin, the boundary between yin and yang grows blurred, and demons and evil spirits roam the land. By chance, the protagonist Lin Yuan transmigrates as the young owner of a paper-art shop on the verge of bankruptcy, only to discover that the paper figures, horses, and mansions he crafts can all “come to life.”

Relying on the craftsmanship of a top prop maker from his previous life and his “spirit sight” talent, Lin Yuan struggles to survive in this world haunted by the uncanny. He discovers that paper crafting is not only a way to make funerary objects, but also a powerful path of cultivation: make a paper figure and dot its eyes to ward off disasters and evil; make a paper horse to ride through the underworld on a nighttime journey to the Yellow Springs; make a paper mansion to communicate with the gods and summon heavenly soldiers to suppress demons.

The Imperial Court’s Demon Suppression Bureau considers him a heretic, while the wandering sorcerers see him as easy prey. But Lin Yuan has his own philosophy: “As long as the silver is right, I’d even craft a golden statue of the King of Hell to worship.” This is a path to immortality that begins in a paper-art shop, as an ordinary man handcrafts gods and Buddhas across the heavens and crushes uncanny immortals and demons alike.
