The protagonist's corps: The Red Wolf Guards, a civilian escort force made up of death-row inmates, veteran frontier soldiers, martial arts experts, and retired generals. They take payment to protect cities, merchants, civilians, and the border. They uphold their promises and honor, and never meddle in court politics or seize power.
