Lin Sui is a graduate student in rural agriculture at China Agricultural University. She has devoted herself to traditional farming techniques and firmly believes that the agricultural wisdom passed down by her ancestors for thousands of years will never become obsolete. During a rural field study, she tries to protect an ancestral copy of the ancient agricultural text Essential Techniques for the Common People, but is caught in a landslide. When she opens her eyes again, she has transmigrated to a spacefaring age ten thousand years in the future. Looking at the polluted interstellar soil and the ancestral copy of Essential Techniques for the Common People in her hands, Lin Sui makes a decision: she will bring her ancestors’ farming civilization back to life in the spacefaring age.
